Framingham Spoils Lasell Baseball Home Opener with 2-0 Shutout

After two scoreless innings, Joe Sheehan (Burlington, MA) scored the game-winning run in the third, plated by Matt Roberge (Lowell, MA) who wrapped a double into right center field. Sheehan had walked to reach base and was advanced to scoring position on a Danny Tomasz (Newburyport, MA) fielder's choice.
The 1-0 edge held through to the ninth inning when Framingham tacked on an insurance run with two outs when pinch runner Chris Brassard (Fitchburg, MA) scored off a Will Crofton (Hopkinton, MA) RBI line drive single into right field.
Roberge went 3-for-5 with and RBI and one double while Pedro Acevedo (New Britian, CT) and Corey Ketterer (Plymouth, MA) each picked up a pair of hits in the game.
Lasell's Conor Cavanagh (Quincy, MA) had three hits on four at-bats while Mike Mahoney (Rockland, MA), Andrew Pompeo (Hingham, MA), and Billy Uberti (Newton, MA) produced one hit each in the loss.
Joshua Sullivan (Rockland, MA) tossed 8.2 innings for the Lasers, sitting down eight Rams on strikes, while surrendering two runs on nine hits. Matthew Pitts (Stoneham, MA) earned the final out of the ninth inning for Lasell, retiring his only batter faced on strikes.
In seven innings of work, Matthew DiCato (Winthrop, MA) secured his third win of the season for Framingham, affording just five hits in the shutout victory. DiCato struck out four batters before Matthew Magazine (Marlborough, MA) relieved him in the eighth. Magazine struck out three batters in two frames to earn the save.
Framingham (5-6) will travel to Johnson & Wales University on Thursday, March 24th for a 3:30 p.m. game against the Wildcats. Lasell's (7-5) next contest is on the same date against Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. at home on Stein Diamond.
