Lasell Falls to UMass Boston
WALTHAM, MA- Lasell College fell, 19-7, to visiting University of Massachusetts at Boston on Thursday night in non-conference play at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis University.

WALTHAM, MA- Lasell College fell, 19-7, to visiting University of Massachusetts at Boston on Thursday night in non-conference play at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis University.
After Lasell jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and a 7-5 lead in the fourth, the Beacons responded to dominate the Lasers 14-0 through the final five innings.
Lasell grabbed a 2-0 lead after a Mike Mahoney (Rockland, MA) double when Jacob Salkovitz (Brockton, MA) beat out an infield single to score Mahoney. Salkovitz would come around to score on a wild pitch.
The Beacons would respond immediately off Mahoney, the Lasell starter, in the next half inning, putting up four runs on two hits and three walks. Mark McCormack (Shelton, CT) and Ryan Walsh (Newton, MA) split the four RBI's, two a piece, both on extra base hits.
In the bottom of the inning, Lasell put up five runs on three UMass Boston errors. The big hit came from Salkovitz, who hit a triple to the right centerfield gap, scoring Mahoney and Carlton Lentini (Wilmington, MA).
At this point, UMass Boston would take over. The Beacons went on to score eight runs over the next two innings to take a 12-7 lead, including seven in the fifth. After a leadoff walk by McCormack, Walsh blasted a towering two run homer to leftfield, his tenth of the season, knocking Mahoney out of the game.
UMass Boston would go on to add seven more runs over the next three innings off the Laser bullpen, stretching the lead to 19-7. After being down 7-4, the Beacons scored 15 consecutive runs.
Mahoney took the loss for Lasell, going four innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and five walks.
Patrick Noble (Somerville, MA) picked up the win out of the bullpen shutting down the Lasers to no hits or walks over four innings of work.
The Lasers dropped their third in a row and fall to 18-13 on the season and will take on Rivier College Friday, April 22nd, at 4:00 p.m. on Stein Diamond. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader will mark their final regular season contest, as well as Senior Day for two Laser athletes, Rob Sutton (Winthrop, MA) and Joe McKernan (Pocasset, MA) who are playing their final season with the Lasers.
