Newton, MA – The Lasell University field hockey team fought valiantly but fell just short in a thrilling overtime matchup, dropping a 4-3 decision to Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday evening.
Lasell took an early lead in the 12th minute when Jacquelyn Scopa assisted Brooklyn Northcutt for the game's first goal. Both teams traded chances in a tightly contested first half, with each side firing just three shots in the second quarter.
Colby-Sawyer surged out of the break, scoring three unanswered goals in the third quarter to take a 3-1 advantage. In the 49th minute, Northcutt scored her second goal, blasting a shot into the right corner to narrow the gap. Just six minutes later, Mara Boldy set up Northcutt again, who completed her hat trick by tipping the ball into the cage to tie the game at 3-3.
The match extended into overtime, where Colby-Sawyer capitalized early on a corner to secure the 4-3 victory.
