Dartmouth, MA- Freshman midfielder Ruby Weidner recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Lasell University field hockey team to a 3–1 road victory over UMass Dartmouth on Thursday evening.
Lasell struck first midway through the opening quarter when Weidner found the back of the cage at the 8:31 mark, finishing a setup from Halleen Seguin and Amelia McAfee to give the Lasers a 1–0 lead. Despite outshooting UMass Dartmouth 6–1 in the first half, Lasell carried only the one-goal advantage into the break.
After a scoreless second and third quarter, Lasell broke the game open late in the fourth. Weidner doubled the lead at 54:08, converting a pass from Jacquelyn Scopa with another assist from McAfee. The Corsairs answered just over a minute later when Arlene Johnson scored unassisted to cut the deficit to 2–1, but Weidner quickly responded to complete her hat trick at 57:00, sealing the 3–1 victory.
Weidner led all players with six shots and five shots on goal, while McAfee tallied three assists and Seguin and Scopa each added helpers. Lasell generated consistent offensive pressure throughout the match, holding an 18–15 edge in total shots and an 8–6 advantage in penalty corners.
