West Hartford, CT- The Lasell University field hockey team battled to a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday afternoon, clinching the fifth seed in the 2025 GNAC tournament.
The Lasers struck first midway through the opening quarter when Jacquelyn Scopa buried a goal off an assist from Amelia McAfee at the 8:57 mark. Scopa's goal came shortly after a Lasell penalty corner, capping off a sequence of crisp passing and sustained offensive pressure. Goalkeeper McKenna Ecker kept the Lasers in control early, making several key saves against a dangerous Blue Jays attack.
Lasell continued to apply pressure throughout the second quarter, generating multiple scoring chances. The Lasers earned a flurry of corners late in the half and forced Saint Joseph goalie to make several back-to-back saves to keep the deficit at one heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lasers attack broke through again. Megan Crabtree extended the lead to 2–0 in the 36th minute. The Blue Jays responded quickly, cutting the lead in half with a goal just over a minute later, but Lasell's defense tightened up down the stretch to preserve the lead.
Ecker anchored the defensive effort, tallying double-digit saves, including five in a critical fourth-quarter stretch where Saint Joseph earned multiple corners. Defenders Lily Lemay and Isabella O'Reilly also came up big with key defensive saves late in the game to deny potential equalizers.
