LASELL ROLLS PAST ST. JOSEPHS (ME)
Lasell remains unbeaten in the GNAC as they overtook Saint Josephs College of Maine, 80-60, on Saturday afternoon, in the Lasers Athletic Center. Jose Guitian (Miami, FL) paced the Lasers with 29 points and 12 rebounds, leading all scorers. The Lasers head into the semester break 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC.

The visiting Monks came out on an 11-2 run over two minutes with two trey's and a jumper by Tyler Kelley (Saco, ME) and a third three from Mitch Ouellet (Fort Kent, ME). Brad Caravoulias (Dracut, Mass.) stopped the Monks streak hitting two back-to-back threes as Lasell scored 10 unanswered points over a four minute span.
Saint Joseph's stretched the lead to nine at the ten minute mark, and remained on top until Lasell tied the game at 35 all with 2:56 left in the half off a three by Kevin Richard (New Orleans, LA). Just a minute later, Richard found an open lane in the paint and layed up two points giving Lasell their first lead of the game, at 38-37. Ray Eatmon (Huntington, NY) tipped in the ball after an offensive board to give the visitors the edge with just 33 seconds left, quickly followed by Richard fast breaking down the court, and dropping in a basket, with one second left.
As the Monks inbounded the ball, Lasell fouled giving Saint Joseph's the chance to pull ahead. Scot Vachon (Schenectady, NY) hit one of two freebies to tie the game heading into the break.
Caravoulias drained a three to give Lasell the lead after the half, and the Lasers progressed to a 10 point advantage by 11:15 after a baseline three point field goal by Charles Horton (Worcester, Mass.). Saint Joseph's shot only 28% in the second half, while Lasell put in nearly half their shots. Lasell went up by 27 as Caravoulias set up Guitian for an ally-oop dunk with six minutes left. The Lasers came away with an 80-60 win, handing Saint Joseph's their first GNAC loss this season.
Lasell's full court defensive pressure came up with 11 steals on 22 Monk turnovers. Caravoulias hit 5 shots from behind the arc in the game and had 17 total points. Corey Godfrey (Cambridge, Mass.) chipped in eleven points and Horton had an additional 9 along with 5 assists. For the Monks, Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, NY) put in 14 points and Kelley and Ouellet had 8 points apiece. Eatmon joined Guitian with 12 total rebounds.
The Monks, now 6-3 overall, have one more game before the semester break against Bates College on Tuesday, the 16th of December. The Lasers conclude their play for 2008 and pick up GNAC play after the New Year, at Albertus Magnus, on Saturday, January 10th, at 3:30 p.m.
