Lasers Drop Non-Conference Road Game to Keene State
Javon Williams scores 16 points in the loss.
KEENE, N.H.—The Lasell College men's basketball team traveled to Keene State Thursday for their first game after the holiday break. The Lasers came out strong in the first half, but they were unable to hold on and eventually fell 90-62, to the hosting Owls.
The Lasers put together an 8-0 run early in the first half, sparked by two jump shots by senior Javon Williams (Mattapan, MA), to go up 15-8 with 13:21 left in the half. The teams then traded baskets for the next 10 minutes of the half, which resulted in four ties and five lead changes. The Lasers held a 36-35 edge with 3:27 remaining, but the Owls managed to put together a 10-3 run that put the hosts up 45-39 at the break.
In the second half, Lasell struggled offensively as the team was held to only 23 points. The Owls were able to pull away from the Lasers midway through the second half sparked by a 15-0 run that began with a lay-up by Montel Walcott (New Haven, CT). The Lasers were unable answer the offense of Keene State and could not close the gap over the next 10 minutes of play. Lasell fell to the non-conference opponent 90-62.
Three players scored in double-figures for Lasell, led by Williams, who scored 16 points. Junior Sean Bertanza (Seymour, CT) had 14 points while freshman Sherrod Wade (College Park, GA) finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The men fall to 3-7 and will be back in action on Saturday when they host conference opponent Rivier College at 3:00 p.m.
