Lasers Pick up GNAC Win Over Suffolk 89-77
Bertanza and Williams combine for 67 points in today's victory.
Boston, MA – The duo of junior Sean Bertanza (Seymore, CT) and senior Javon Williams (Mattapan, MA) combined for 67 points as the Lasell College Lasers defeated the Suffolk University Rams 89-77 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
The Lasers trailed by two going into halftime, but Bertanza exploded for 30 second half points. Bertanza and Williams combined to score 48 of Lasell's 55 points in the second half compared to the Rams' 41 as a unit.
Bertanza finished the game with 37 points on 13-for-23 shooting from the field, while Williams recorded a double-double with 30 points of his own and a team-high 13 boards.
Junior Chris Torres (Brockton, MA) led the Rams with 25 points, scoring 18 in the first half. Junior Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, MA) finished the game with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while junior Colin Halpin (Melrose, MA) collected 13 points for the Rams.
Bertanza's offense overpowered the Rams late in the game, as he was 11-for-16 from the field in the second half, including three three-pointers and a 5-for-6 performance from the free throw line.
The win improves Lasell to 4-3 in GNAC play this season on a 5-9 overall record. With the loss Suffolk drops to 2-5 in league play and a 5-8 overall mark on the year.
Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday evening. The Lasers will travel back into the city to take on Emerson College in GNAC action at 7:00pm. Suffolk will head over to Tufts University to take on the Jumbos in non-conference action at 7:00pm.
