Men's Hoops Gets Back to Winning Ways with 88-74 Win at Suffolk
BOSTON, Mass. (2/20/14) – The Lasell College men's basketball team bounced back from a tough loss a night ago to claim an 88-74 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory over Suffolk on Thursday evening. Lasell improved to 14-10 overall and 11-6 in league action while Suffolk slipped to 9-15 on the year and 6-11 in conference play.
Brandon Ganesh (West Palm Beach, Fla.) finished with 25 points, including a 6-11 effort from three point land while grabbing nine rebounds for Lasell. Clyde Niba (Atlanta, Ga.) came off the bench to notch a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds while Mike Vallone (Wallingford, Conn.) scored a career-high 14 points on 7-8 shooting to go with eight rebounds and Sonny Mello (Fall River, Mass.) netted 10 points for the Lasers.
Caleb Unni tallied a team-high 19 points eight rebounds and five assists for Suffolk, Sam Nwadike and Frantz Pinard reached double digits with 15 and 14 points respectively. Jake Meister came off the bench for the Rams, scoring eight points and snaring eight rebounds.
The Lasers started the game on a 16-6 run in the opening five minute spurred by 12 points from Ganesh who connected on four of his first five attempts from the field including a pair of three pointers along with a pair of free throws. Suffolk would cut the Lasell lead to six on four different occasions in the first half but were never able to get closer as Lasell took a 37-30 lead into the half.
Lasell opened the second half with the first six points to take a 13 point lead and never allowed Suffolk closer than seven the rest of the way as the Lasers cruised to victory, never trailing in the contest.
Lasell will honor their seniors on Saturday February 22nd as they host St. Joseph's College of Maine at 3:00 p.m. in their final regular season home game. The Lasers will host a GNAC tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday February 25th with the opponent to be determined.
