T&F: Lasers Compete in Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational
Boston, MA- The Lasers headed to Suffolk University this weekend for the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational.
Gianni Colebut had an outstanding collegiate debut, setting a new school record in the High Jump with a clearance of 1.89m, placing 9th overall. He also competed in the Long Jump, jumping 5.48m. There was a thrilling back-and-forth battle in the High Jump between Gianni and Nate Gonzalez. Gianni first broke the school record by clearing 1.83m, only for Nate to quickly steal it with a 1.85m jump. Gianni responded by clearing 1.86m and ultimately broke his own record with a 1.89m clearance, which now stands as the school record. Nate Gonzalez also performed well, clearing 1.85m to rank 2nd All-Time in the school's history for the event.
On the track, Cameren Candelaria had a remarkable performance, setting all-time marks in both the 60m and 200m. He clocked a time of 7.39 seconds in the 60m, tying for 4th All-Time, and followed it up with a 23.45-second run in the 200m, which ranks 3rd All-Time for the school. In the women's track events, Kayoni Jordan set a season's best in the 60m and finished 26th overall.
In the field events, Colleen Bartel had an impressive showing, jumping 9.02m in the Triple Jump, which tied her for 3rd All-Time in the school's history. She also ran in the 60m hurdles. The relays were another highlight of the meet, as both the men's and women's Sprint Medley Relay teams broke school records. The men's team of Jordan W, Cameren C, Colin C, and Amill H finished in 4:07.92, setting a new school record, while the women's team of Hanna B, Mikayla B, Colleen B, and Victoria E set a record with a time of 5:21.42.
There were several personal bests and season bests throughout the meet. Aiden Mitchell set a personal best in the 200m, and Hanna B achieved a season best in the 200m as well. Additionally, Cameren Candelaria's 60m time of 7.39s now ranks 4th All-Time for the men's team, while Aiden Mitchell's 7.46s in the 60m tied for 6th All-Time. Zayshawn Griffin also had a strong performance in the Long Jump, with a 6.26m jump that ranks 3rd All-Time for the school.
