Lasers Charge Past New Haven, 3-1

NEW HAVEN, CT- Lasell College won out, 3-1, over Division II University of New Haven in non-conference men's volleyball play on Friday night. The Lasers prevailed in the first set, 25-16, before the Chargers rebounded for a 25-23 win in set two.  Lasell closed the match convincingly in the next two games, 25-11 and 25-19.

Lasell came out on fire in the first set, garnering a quick lead they would never relinquish.  The visitors drilled 17-of-34 attempts for a respectable .324 attack percentage.  In the second set, the Chargers raced out to a 10-5 advantage before the Lasers fought back to a 24-23 deficit late in the game.  Ben Hollis (Seattle, WA) put the game away for the Chargers on a kill off of Ryan Earl's (Greenville, NY) hands.

Game three saw the Lasers easily sweep away with a 25-11 frame, gaining advantage from 10 New Haven attack errors, while holding their own miscues down to only two.  The final set was even through an 11-all tie before Lasell proceeded with an 8-0 run to grasp hold of the match. 

Hollis finished with a team-best 10 kills while notching seven digs defensively throughout the contest and Gregg Brisbin (Laurel Springs, NJ) added five addition kill points.  Earl compiled 20 assists and six digs and Xavier Atienzar (Monroe, CT) came away with a match-high 11 defensive pick-ups.

For the Lasers, Spencer Parker (Newington, CT) had a grand all-around day with a game-high 14 kills, adding seven blocks (four solo, three assisted) and seven digs.  Parker swung for a 35.5% attack percentage in the match, connecting on 14-of-31 attempts, with three errors.

Mike Harringon (Billerica, MA) knocked down nine kills in the middle, adding five rejections at the net.  Harry Strobel (Westport, CT) and Alex Mill (Danville, NH) added eight and six kills, respectively.  As a team, the Lasers hit a .237 clip during the match, earning points on 46-of-114 attacks with 19 miscues. Andrew Glenn (Westport, CT) dished out the majority of those assists, concluding the match with 34 total and adding three service aces, six digs and a block.  

On defense, Max Vaughan (Wethersfield, CT) dug up 10 balls for the Lasers, a team-high performance.  Vaughan also contributed with four kills and two aces.  Strobel, Harrington, and Micah Aiu (Honolulu, HI) also had big numbers in the back court.  Strobel had nine digs, while Harrington and Aiu each tallied eight. 

Lasell (7-5, 1-1 GNAC) returns home for Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Monday, February 14th when they host local rivals Mount Ida College at 7:00 p.m.
