MVB: Zaharewicz and Maloney Take Home Major GNAC Awards
Newton, MA – The Lasell University men's volleyball team was well-represented in the 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason awards, with four players earning conference honors and two standout Lasers claiming major awards.
Leading the way was senior Theo Zaharewicz, who was named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Year and selected to the All-Conference First Team. First-year Trystan Maloney also earned GNAC Setter and Rookie of the Year honors, along with a spot on the All-Conference First Team.
Zaharewicz, a native of Bethany, Conn., was a dominant force at the net all season, leading the GNAC in total kills with 388 (4th in NCAA Division III) and ranking second in kills per set with 3.80, while hitting at a strong .342 attack percentage. He also led the conference in total points (453.5) and was second in points per set (4.4), hitting over .400 in 10 matches. His stellar offensive production earned him three GNAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Maloney, from Colorado Springs, Colo., made an immediate impact in his debut season, directing the offense with precision and poise. He led the GNAC in assists per set (9.49), ranking 15th nationally, and was second in total assists (816, 17th in DIII). Maloney tallied 30+ assists in 17 matches, including two standout 50+ assist performances against MIT and Emmanuel. He earned a combined five GNAC Setter and Rookie of the Week awards throughout the season.
Sophomore Jasper Schultz was named to the All-Conference Second Team following a strong campaign. In 20 matches and 66 sets played, Schultz recorded 169 kills (2.56 K/S), hit at a .223 clip, and added 91 digs, 25 total blocks, and 23 service aces, providing a reliable presence on both sides of the ball.
Rounding out the honors, junior Peyton Walter was selected to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. In 22 matches and 68 sets, Walter contributed across multiple areas of play. He registered 16 kills with a .250 attack percentage, along with 10 assists, 24 service aces, and 82 digs.
