MVB: Lasers Drop to Juniata
Marcy, NY- The Lasell University men's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to unbeaten Juniata College, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19, on Saturday afternoon at the Wildcat Field House in Marcy, New York.
The loss moves the Lasers to 2-1 overall on the young season, while Juniata improves to 3-0.
Lasell opened the match with its strongest set, trading points throughout and staying within one late in the frame before Juniata pulled away for the 25-22 win. The Eagles carried that momentum into the second set, using a balanced attack and steady serving pressure to take control early and cruise to a 25-16 decision. The Lasers showed resilience in the third set, trimming deficits and stringing together multiple scoring runs, but Juniata's efficiency at the net proved to be the difference in a 25-19 finish.
Branch Barnes and Nathaniel Cobuzzi led the Lasers offensively with seven points apiece. Barnes recorded six kills on the outside, while Cobuzzi contributed three kills, two solo blocks, four block assists, and a team-high seven total points. Jasper Schultz and Ryan Tierney added 4.5 points each, with Schultz chipping in five digs defensively. Setter Micah Nakasato directed the offense with nine assists, while libero Ryan Mesnik anchored the back row with a match-high eight digs.
Up Next: The Lasers will look to bounce back this Friday, January 16, when they host Adrian College at 7 p.m. in their home opener.
