Men's Cross Country Earns Fifth at GNAC Championships
The Lasell College men's cross country team took fifth place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships on Saturday afternoon at Rivier University.
Newton, Mass. (10/27/12) - The Lasell College men's cross country team took fifth place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships on Saturday afternoon at Rivier University. Freshmen Alex Weselcouch earned All-Conference honors with a fifth place finish overall for the Lasers. Norwich University took home the team title, with Emmanuel and Johnson and Wales rounding out the top three.
The men's team saw six runners set personal records in the meet, and the team's combined time was 2 minutes and 11 seconds faster than their 2011 team performance.
Weselcouch finished in 26:49 for fifth place overall, becoming the first Lasell men's cross country runner to earn All-GNAC honors in the program's history. David Cooper was the second Laser across the finish line, his time of 28:33 was good for 24th overall. Cameron Weiwel made major strides in the meet, finishing third for Lasell with a time of 29:04, placing 31st overall. Wiewel has been finishing seventh in the Lasell lineup for the bulk of the season saved his best performance to date for the team's biggest stage.
Kyle Northrop was fourth for Lasell and 33rd overall in a time of 29:18, followed by Isaac Montoya (30:56) in 51st, Patrick Sponzo (31:11) in 53rd, Andrew Panther (31:37) in 58th, Conor Devlin (31:52) in 60th and Tyler Schwabe (35:58) in 74th.
