Boston, MA- In a non-conference matchup, Emerson College topped Lasell University with an 8-3 and 6-1 victory.
Game 1 (8-3)
Emerson jumped ahead in the first inning with an RBI single from Avi Kuperman that scored Sam Zannotti. The Lions added another run in the second, as Grace Beaulieu hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Ally Lacey. By the third inning, Emerson increased their lead to 5-0, with a combination of timely hits and Lasell errors that allowed additional unearned runs to score.
Lasell responded in the fourth inning with a late rally. Shyanne Raccio singled up the middle to bring in Alyssa Bland, and then Mackenzie Still followed with a fielder's choice that scored Emily Rondeau. Madalen Brown's double later in the inning scored Still, making it 3-5.
However, Emerson wasn't finished, as they continued to add to their lead in the sixth inning. Lasell's offense struggled against Emerson's pitcher, Caleigh Sheehan, who went the distance and struck out 10 batters while allowing just 3 hits and 3 earned runs. Lasell's pitcher, Abigail Fortin, took the loss after throwing 6 innings and allowing 8 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits while striking out 3.
Lasell's standout hitters included Shyanne Raccio, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Madalen Brown, who contributed a double and an RBI.
Game 2 (6-1)
Lasell took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Emily Rondeau stole second base, and a throwing error by the Emerson catcher allowed Emily Mestas to score from third, giving Lasell a 1-0 lead. However, Emerson responded in the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1. Riley Caiazza grounded out to shortstop, bringing home Jessica Gomez for the equalizer.
In the fifth inning, Emerson took control of the game. The Lions then added run after run and finally bringing Kuperman across the plate for a 5-1 lead.
Emerson's offense continued to roll in the sixth inning as Grace Beaulieu singled to right field, scoring Miles for the final run of the game, making it 6-1.
Jessica Gomez was dominant on the mound for Emerson, throwing 6 innings of shutout ball, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 3. Gomez earned the win, improving to 2-3 on the season. Meghan Theall started for Lasell, giving up 3 hits and 1 run in 4 innings of work. Shyanne Raccio took the loss, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits in 2 innings of relief.
Lasell's offense struggled, only managing 6 hits, with Mestas, Rondeau, and Madalen Brown each recording one.
