Weston, MA - The Lasell University softball team played GNAC opponent Regis College on Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader. They would suffer losses of 9-1 and 9-6 on the afternoon and fall to 6-16 overall and 5-5 in conference.
Game 1
The Pride used a 3-run first inning to mount a 3-1 early advantage after Mackenzie Still came around to score for the Lasers' lone run. The Pride added runs in the second and third innings to expand their lead and the Lasers were unable to manufacture runs off pitcher Gabriella Blanchard. Going into the final inning, the Pride scored four more insurance runs and put the game out of reach, taking game one 9-1. Despite the loss Emily Rondeau and Mackenzie Still both produced doubles for the Laser offense. Pitcher Shyanne Raccio pitched six innings, allowing nine runs but striking out seven batters.
Game 2
After neither team scored in the first inning, each team would push a run across in the second which tied the game 1-1. Meghan Theall's RBI single up the middle would bring in Katie Hopkins but the Lasers left two stranded in the inning. The following innings saw the Pride's offense produce six runs, which left the Lasers in a 7-1 deficit heading into the bottom of the fourth. In the next two Laser at-bats, they were able to dish the scoring right back bringing in five runs across the fourth and fifth innings. Alyssa Bland would single in a two-out bases loaded situation in the fourth to score two runs. Then a Katie Hopkins triple followed by a Shyanne Raccio single scored three more runs which nearly erased the Pride lead, 7-6. Unfortunately for the Lasers, the Pride had one last push in them as they got two runs in the sixth and wouldn't allow another Laser score, taking the second game 9-6. The Lasers as a team posted 12 hits, with Meghan Theall, Shyanne Raccio, and Katie Hopkins all providing multi-hit efforts. Abigail Fortin went seven innings with eight earned runs and five strikeouts, and falls to a 4-5 record on the year.
Up Next - The Lasers look to rebound at Johnson & Wales on Friday afternoon with doubleheader games set for 2 PM and 4 PM.
