Providence, RI – The Lasell University softball team was unable to generate offense in a tough conference matchup on Thursday afternoon, falling 10–0 and 11-2 to Johnson & Wales University at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex.
Game 1
Despite a strong start from the circle by Abigail Fortin, the Wildcats' bats broke through with key hits, including a 3-run home run from Jadyn Torres in the fourth inning and a 3-run blast from Mady Lyons in the sixth to seal the win. Fortin went 5.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and 9 earned runs, while striking out two.
Offensively, Lasell managed just two hits on the day—one each from Alyssa Bland and Mackenzie Still. Bland also swiped a base in the first inning, giving the Lasers early momentum that they were unable to capitalize on. Lasell was held hitless over the final three innings by JWU starter Katie Scheid, who earned the win with a 2-hit shutout, striking out three.
Game 2
Lasell got on the board in the third inning when Alyssa Bland led off with a single and came around to score on a hard-hit RBI single to left by Mackenzie Still, cutting the deficit to 3–1. One inning later, Emily Rondeau reached and scored on an RBI knock from Abigail Fortin, bringing the Lasers within three runs at 5–2.
Still and Fortin each finished with a hit and an RBI, while Katie Hopkins sparked the offense with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate, including a walk and a stolen base. Bland also reached and swiped a bag, continuing her strong presence at the top of the lineup.
On the mound, Shyanne Raccio went three innings, striking out two and working around early pressure before the Wildcats pulled away with a six-run fourth. Fortin pitched the final frame in relief.
Lasell totaled six hits in the contest, with five different players contributing to the offense. Defensively, the Lasers turned a smooth double play to help limit damage in the second inning.
Up Next: Lasell will be back this Sunday with a conference doubleheader against Anna Maria.
