West Hartford, CT - The Lasers came up short in a GNAC doubleheader at Saint Joseph (Conn.), dropping a 9-1 decision before a tight 5-4 loss in game two.
Game 1
The Lasers struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on early traffic as Madalen Brown delivered an RBI single up the middle to bring home Abigail Fortin for a 1-0 lead. Lasell threatened with runners in scoring position, but the Blue Jays responded immediately and never looked back.
Saint Joseph (Conn.) answered with a pair in the bottom half of the first and continued to build momentum with a three-run second inning, aided by a mix of timely hitting and Lasell miscues. The hosts added single runs in the third and a three-run fourth to create separation.
Fortin led the Lasers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Brown, Emily Stilwell, Adreanna Ventullo, and Ashlyn McCampbell each added a hit in the effort. Brown accounted for Lasell's lone RBI.
In the circle, Fortin took the loss, tossing four innings while striking out one.
Game 2
After falling behind early, the Lasers responded in the third inning as Abigail Fortin lifted a sacrifice fly to even the score before Emily Stilwell followed with an RBI single to give Lasell a 2-1 edge.
Saint Joseph (Conn.) answered in the fourth to regain the lead, but Lasell showed resilience once again in the fifth. Adreanna Ventullo delivered an RBI single to tie the game, and Ashlyn McCampbell followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Lasers back in front, 4-3.
The Blue Jays responded with a run in the fifth to even things up before taking the lead for good in the sixth on an RBI single.
Ventullo led the Lasers at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance and an RBI, while Fortin, Stilwell, and McCampbell each drove in a run. Fortin also added two stolen bases in the effort.
In the circle, Shyanne Raccio went the distance, allowing five runs (four earned) while striking out three.
Up Next: Lasell will be back in action tomorrow with a home matchup against Albertus Magnus College.
