EMERSON RALLIES IN THE SECOND TO WIN AT LASELL

Emerson College held just a three point advantage after the first half of play against Lasell College, but rallied in the second to take home an 83-68 win in women's basketball action on Tuesday evening.  Andrea Kosek (Latham, NY) and Lauren Zaniboni (San Diego, CA) each tallied fourteen points in the second half for the Lions who boost their record to 11-6, and 3-1 in the GNAC.  The Lasers closed out the evening at 5-11 overall and 2-2 in the GNAC.

The lead changed hands six times over the course of the first twenty minutes, with the Lasers holding the biggest edge, at 7:23, up by eight after going on a 9-1 run over a five minute stretch. After chipping away at the Lasers lead, the Lions tied the game just under two minutes at 31-31 with a three pointer by Rachel Kaye (Wakefield, Mass.), then went ahead on a free throw by Lauren Vassallo (Oxford, Conn.).  Lasell's Tricia Culver (North Hampton, Mass.) and Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) were instrumental for Lasell, combining for 22 of the Lasers 31 first half points, as the teams broke for the half, at 34-31.

The Lasers made it difficult for the Lions, who shot 48.4% on the night, to take any kind of significant lead early in the second.  Lasell looked to attack the basket from all points, dumping the ball down low for the post buckets, while shooting 50% from behind the arc.   At the ten minute mark, Lasell remained down by three, but the Lions pulled together to push ahead by 13 over the course of the next three minutes, then put the game out of reach of the Lasers throughout the enduring minutes.

Kosek and Zaniboni finished with nineteen points apiece as well as six grabs off the glass for Emerson.   Kelly was the leader on Lasell's side netting eighteen points and collecting 9 rebounds.  Culver finished with 17 total points and 7 boards, and guard Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) also added 7 boards and 11 points for the Lasers.

Lasell heads back into GNAC action on Saturday, January 24th, at 12:00 p.m., at Pine Manor College.
