Lasell Athletics Announces Appointment of Matthew Reid to Head Women's Basketball Coach

Newton, MA- Lasell University is pleased to announce the hiring of Matthew Reid as the new Women's Basketball Head Coach. Reid joins Lasell after serving as Associate Head Coach at the University of New England (UNE) for the past five years, where he played an instrumental role in building a competitive and successful program.

Reid brings a comprehensive coaching background to Lasell, with nearly two decades of experience across collegiate, high school, and AAU basketball. In addition to his collegiate coaching at UNE, Reid has 13 years of coaching experience at the high school and AAU levels, most recently with the Maine Firecrackers 17U program. He also held coaching roles at Noble High School and Cape Elizabeth, working with both boys' and girls' varsity teams.

Known for his player-first approach, Reid emphasizes skill development, team culture, and competitive excellence. His leadership has helped student-athletes succeed both on and off the court, and his background includes extensive work in recruiting, game preparation, and individual instruction.

Reid holds a Master's in Teaching and Learning from the University of Southern Maine and is also a certified personal trainer, bringing a holistic perspective to athlete development. His multifaceted background in education, fitness, and coaching positions him as a dynamic leader for Lasell Women's Basketball.

Matthew expressed both enthusiasm and gratitude as he takes the reins at Lasell. "I am extremely grateful and excited about the opportunity to join the women's basketball program at Lasell University. Many thanks to Athletic Director Jamie Marcoux and to the search committee for having faith in me to get the job done. There are no shortcuts to the places we want to get to as a program; hard work, communication and positive energy will be instrumental to our success on and off the floor. I'm fired up to start my journey as a Laser!"
