WBB: Lasers Fall to Springfield 68-76
Newton, MA- Despite a strong offensive showing led by Shirle Major's 23 points, The Lasell University women's basketball team took their first loss of the season to Springfield College 68–76.
Lasell opened with steady half-court execution, scoring efficiently at the rim and showing strong rebounding energy on both ends. Early production from the Lasers' starting group helped them stay within a possession despite Springfield's sharp perimeter start. Springfield's guards combined for multiple early threes and forced a pair of Lasell turnovers, building momentum while Lasell's interior scoring and early rebounding kept the game tight.
Springfield began to take control in the second quarter, capitalizing on improved shooting efficiency and converting several transition chances created by defensive pressure. Lasell countered with second-chance points and reliable free-throw trips, however, Springfield's edge in turnovers forced, helped them push the margin to double digits at the break with the Lasers down 28-37
Lasell delivered one of its most cohesive stretches after the break, moving the ball well and getting balanced scoring from its rotation. Springfield responded each time and though Lasell shot better from the field in the quarter, Springfield's efficiency and timely stops kept the lead intact.
Lasell battled to stay in striking distance, converting at the free-throw line and generating inside looks off ball screens. But Springfield continued to dictate pace, closing the night on a run. Lasell's effort on the boards from Laura Johnson, who had 12 rebounds, and moments of efficient scoring kept them competitive, but Springfield's shooting percentages and turnover advantage ultimately secured the win 76-68.
Up Next- The Lasers will be back in action on Monday December 8 at Fitchburg State. Tip-off is set for 7:00PM.
