Nashua, NH- The Lasell University women's soccer team saw its postseason run come to an end Wednesday night, falling 1–0 to Rivier University in the GNAC semifinals despite a strong defensive effort and several second-half scoring chances.
Rivier struck early in the 21st minute when giving the Raiders a 1–0 lead that would hold for the remainder of the match. Goalkeeper Elizabeth DaSilva was sharp in net for the Lasers, tallying multiple key saves to keep Lasell within striking distance throughout the contest.
Lasell's attack began to gain momentum late in the first half and carried it into the second. Brooke Bell led the charge offensively with several quality looks on goal, including a shot in the 84th minute that forced a save from the Rivier keeper. Ayla Hathaway also created scoring opportunities, registering two shots and drawing multiple fouls in dangerous areas.
The Lasers defense, anchored by steady play from defenders Mia Pineault and Destani Alua-Rioux held firm under pressure, limiting Rivier's chances and winning key challenges in the midfield. Despite Lasell's late push, highlighted by a corner kick in the 87th minute and sustained pressure in the closing minutes, the equalizer never came.
With the loss, Lasell concludes its season after an impressive GNAC tournament run that included a quarterfinal victory earlier in the week. The Lasers finish the year with an overll record of 12-4-2 and will continue to push for that GNAC Championship trophy.
