After a truly exciting inaugural season in 2009-2010, the Lasell College women's indoor track & field team has plans to make even more noise in 2010-2011. Returning just one letter-winner from last season, the Lasers have added nine additional competitors to the mix as they launch open the season at the Smith Winter Classic on Saturday, December 4th at 10:00 a.m.
In 2009-2010, the Lasers competed in five regional meets starting out the season at the Smith Winter Classic. Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA) had a top individual performance producing a 7th place finish in the 3000 meter run, with a time of 12:24:88. Missett also set a new school record, and took 10th place overall, in the 5000 meter run with a time of 21 minutes, 37.24 seconds during the Tartan Invitational, hosted by Smith College later in the season.
Freshman Maura Moody (Winthrop, ME) set two individual records at the 2010 MIT Co-Ed Invitational, in the 55 meter and in the high hurdles. Moody took a full second off the previous school record in the 55 meter, finishing the race in 8.39 seconds. In the high hurdles, Moody set a solid record of 10.08 seconds in the event.
Also having strong years for the Lasers were sophomore Cate Hart (Dedham, MA) and senior Stephanie Hauck (Westwood, MA). Hart and Hauck both competed regularly in the 55 meter dash, with Hauck running a personal best of 9.52 at the Tartan Invitational and Hart's personal best of 9.58 being run at MIT.
Missett, a junior, is the sole veteran athlete on the women's track & field team. She will be joined by sophomore Christina Annicelli (North Easton, MA) and first-year athletes Solange Carpenter (Gorham, ME), Meridith Bienvenue (Addison, VT), Kristin Cruikshank (Malden, MA), Alaina Eldredge (Sandford, ME), Maris Lewon (Norwich, CT), Kendall Logsdon (Palmer, MA), Sam Peck (Woodbury, CT), and Chelsea Zeig (West Nyack, NY).
