Peck, Zeig, & Lewon Set New Records at Poyau; Lasers Finish 4th
WALTHAM, MA- Sam Peck (Woodbury, CT), Chelsea Zeig (West Nyack, NY), and Marisa Lewon (Norwich, CT) had outstanding showings for the Lasell College women's track & field team on Saturday at Brandeis University's Reggie Poyau Invitational, setting new institution records in the women's triple jump, the shot put, and the 200 meter run respectively. The Lasers finished in 4th place overall as a team at the annual event.
WALTHAM, MA- Sam Peck (Woodbury, CT), Chelsea Zeig (West Nyack, NY), and Marisa Lewon (Norwich, CT) had outstanding showings for the Lasell College women's track & field team on Saturday at Brandeis University's Reggie Poyau Invitational, setting new institution records in the women's triple jump, the shot put, and the 200 meter run respectively. The Lasers finished in 4th place overall as a team at the annual event.
In the triple jump, Peck notched a distance of 10.30 meters (33' 9 1/2"), knocking off her own old record of 9.99 meters. Peck's record- setting performance earned her a 5th place finish in the event and two points for the Lasers. The rookie also finished 1st in the 55 meter hurdles, good for 10 points for the Lasers, with a time of 9.68 seconds.
Zeig's new Lasell record came with a first place performance in the shot put. Zeig launched the shot put 10.22 meters (33'6 1/2"), good to break her previous record of 9.78 meters. Zeig's first place ranking also earned Lasell 10 points towards their final score. Lewon finished the 200 metere race in 11th place with a time of 33.10 seconds, cutting a second off of the previous Lasell-best.
Kendall Logsdon (Palmer, MA) finished the 55 meter dash preliminaries in 7th place, just one spot away from qualifying for the finals. Logsdon clocked a time of 8.05 seconds in the dash. Logsdon also rounded out the field events, earning points for Lasell in the long jump and the triple jump. Logsdon took 5th place in the long jump with a distance of 4.48 meters (14'8 1/2") and taking 6th in the triple jump with a distance of 10.02 meters (32'10 1/2").
Additional top performances on the track came from Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, CT) in the 200 meter dash, clocking in with a time of 36.14 and a 13th place finish, Solange Carpenter (Gorham, ME) in the 600 meter dash, taking 3rd place with a time of 1:53.73, and Alex Smith in the 800 meter run earning 3rd with a time of 3:11.99. Junior captain Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA) concluded the 3000 meter run in 13:07.76, good for 9th place.
Overall, Lasell finished in 4th place with 41 points behind 1st place Amherst (190 points), 2nd place Brandeis (96 points), and 3rd place Smith College (70 points). The University of Massachusetts at Boston rounded out 5th place with 24 points.
The Lasers next event is at the Smith Tartan Invitational on Saturday, February 5th. The meet starts at 10:00 a.m.
