LASELL UPSETS RIC, WINS MATCH IN FIVE
Newton, Mass.- The Lasell College Lasers upset Rhode Island College tonight in non-conference womens volleyball action. After losing 15-25 in the first set, Lasell regrouped and fought back to win games two and three 25-16 and 25-18. The Anchorwomen tied it up in the fourth set 25-17, before the Lasers came back to take the match 15-12 in game five.

The Anchorwomen tied it up in the fourth set 25-17, before the Lasers came back to take the match 15-12 in game five.
Senior captain Kelsey Schmidt (Ballston Spa, NY) was on fire for the Lasers, picking up a game high 14 kills and swinging a .293. Lasell's primary setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) played a smart match and had a double-double with 27 assists and eighteen digs.
The Lasers defense was incredible, with 5 athletes picking up double digits in total digs. Amanda Major (Southbury, CT) led the way for Lasell with an incredible 35 digs, followed closely behind by Jenna-Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) and Nicole Wetterman (Dighton, MA) whom dug up 34 combined. Megan Gobeille (Lincoln, RI) had an additional 16 digs to go along with Crozier's eighteen.
Geary and Wetterman picked up 8 and 7 kills respectively on offense, and Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) delivered 5 kills and 4 digs over the course of the evening. Schmidt also came up with some huge blocks in game five to turn the momentum in the Lasers favor. Schmidt finished the night with 2.5 blocks.
Rhode Island also had some fine performances, with two athletes collecting double-doubles. Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) had 10 kills and 27 digs, while Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) came out with 13 kills and 22 digs. The Anchorwomen's libero roamed the court and picked up a game high 39 digs over the five sets.
With this win, Lasell's record bumps up to 6-14, and Rhode Island ends the night at 6-16. Lasell is scheduled to host a tri-match on Saturday, October 18th. The Lasers will compete with Albertus Magnus College and St. Joseph's (ME) in GNAC action. Game times are 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
