WESTCONN INVITATIONAL RESULTS AND NOTES
The Western Connecticut State University womens volleyball team opened its home slate with a 3-0 win over Lasell College in the first round of the WestConn Invitational at The ONeill Center Friday night. Games scores were 25-10, 25-11 and 25-12.
The Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team opened its home slate with a 3-0 win over Lasell College in the first round of the WestConn Invitational at The O'Neill Center Friday night. Games scores were 25-10, 25-11 and 25-12.
The Lasers were led by Amanda Major (Southbury, CT) who racked up an impressive 21 digs and one service ace. In their first collegiate match, freshmen Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) and Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) came up with 3 blocks and 4 service aces respectively, while sophomore Megan Gobeille (Lincoln, RI) collected 4 kills in the match.
The Colonials, 2-0, dominated at the net and executed well on defense. Kelley Collins (Massapequa, NY) led the team with 10 digs on the night. Classmate Michelle Hearns (Bedford Hills, NY) registered a pair of aces for the winners.
In the tournament opener, the Western New England College coasted
to a 3-0 victory over Framingham State College with scores of
25-18, 25-13 and 25-15.
Junior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) led the
Golden Bears with 10 kills and six digs. Lizzie Manor (Black River,
NY) dominated defensively with 18 digs for the winners.
The Rams were led by sophomore middle hitter Ashley Trudeau
(Rockland, MA), who put away eight kills. Alison Appleman (Hyannis,
MA) and Jessi Goode (Marston Mills, MA) contributed 10 and eight
digs, respectively.
The four-team Invitational continues on Saturday morning with four
more matches tipping off at 9 am.
