Lasell Splits in Tri-Match, Simmons Notches Sweep
The Lasell College women’s volleyball team split a pair of matches during their last regular season date of competition, falling 3-0 to Simmons University in the opening match of the day before rebounding to defeat Albertus Magnus in the final match of the afternoon.

(10/27/12) – The Lasell College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches during their last regular season date of competition, falling 3-0 to Simmons University in the opening match of the day before rebounding to defeat Albertus Magnus in the final match of the afternoon. Simmons swept their competitions on picking up a three set win over Albertus Magnus. Simmons finishes their regular season at 18-13 overall and 9-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, while Lasell wraps up their regular season at 7-25 overall and 6-6 in the GNAC. After dropping a pair of matches today the Falcons stand at 12-12 overall and 3-9 in the conference.
Simmons vs Lasell
The Sharks took a three set victory against the host Lasers, winning 25-15, 25-16 and 25-18 in the opening match of the day. Simmons used a potent hitting attack, tallying 39 kills in three sets for a .281 hitting percentage to control the match throughout.
Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.) led the way for Simmons with 11 kills, while Caroline Boyd (Hampden, Mass.) notched nine kills and Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) finished with seven kills and 10 digs. Kyla McCabe-Corrow (Madbury, N.H.) handed out 30 assists directing the Sharks attack.
Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) and Anna Feeter (Peterboough, N.H.) led Lasell with seven and six kills respectively, while Jordan Seid (Rowland Heights, Calif.) had a match-high 13 digs.
Simmons vs Albertus Magnus
Simmons University took advantage of the rhythm they finished their opening match with and rolled right into the first set versus Albertus Magnus firing on all cylinders. The Sharks cruised to scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-15 to collect their ninth GNAC victory.
Raeann Nesta again finished with a match-best 11 kills, while Caroline Boyd chipped in with seven kills, and Rachel Dufault and Brittany Hill (Milford, Mass.) each added 6 kills. Kyla McCabe-Corrow again orchestrated a balanced attack collecting 30 assists in the process. Simmons libero Chanel (Phoenix, Ariz.) Thomas finished with 16 digs and Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) joined her in double figures with 10 digs.
Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) and Krista LaBissoniere (Meriden, Conn.) posted team-best three kills for Albertus Magnus, and Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
Albertus Magnus vs Lasell
Lasell jumped out to an early lead and comfortably earned the 3-0 victory by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25- 13. Lasell finished the match with 43 kills and a .234 hitting percentage, including 14 from Sharisse Scott-Rawlins and 10 from Alexis Chappell (Sprinfield, Mass.). Freshmen Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, R.I.) notched 36 assists while Jordan Seid had a match-best 23 digs.
Melissa Manning an Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) paced the Falcons with five and four kills respectively. Acerra led the Albertus Magnus defensive effort for the second straight match, totaling 20 digs against Lasell.
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament will begin on Tuesday October 30th with pairings to be released shortly after the conclusion after Saturday's conference matches wrap up.
