WVB: Lasers Advance to Conference Final
Newton, MA- Lasell University advanced to the conference championship after sweeping third-seeded Saint Joseph's (Maine) 3–0 in the semifinal round at the Lasell Athletic Center. The Lasers controlled the match from the opening serve, taking the sets 25–16, 25–12, and 25–19 to improve to 23–3 on the season and secure their place in the title match.
Lasell established its rhythm early, hitting .265 in the opening frame. Trinity Silva and Morgan Bogli set the tone, combining for 11 kills in the first set alone as Lasell pushed ahead and never trailed.
The momentum continued into the second set, where the Lasers delivered their strongest offensive performance of the afternoon. Lasell swung at a .321 clip while holding Saint Joseph's to just seven kills and a .042 percentage. Bogli's serving run broke the set open, finishing the match with 12 kills, four aces, and a match-high 19.5 points. Silva matched her with 12 kills of her own and hit .296, powering an attack that kept the Monks' defense under constant pressure.
Lasell's defense played just as significant a role in the sweep, compiling 12 total blocks and limiting Saint Joseph's to a negative hitting percentage for the match. Victoria Pariseault and Michelle French anchored the front row, combining for eight block assists, while setter Sydney Katz orchestrated both sides of the game with 27 assists and steady defensive contributions. The Lasers held the Monks to single-digit kills in every set, capitalizing on attack errors and controlling extended rallies.
Saint Joseph's made its strongest push in the third set, trading points early before Lasell's block tightened and shifted the momentum. A late surge, fueled by Silva on the outside and a series of timely defensive stands, helped the Lasers close out the match and complete the sweep.
Up Next: The Lasers will take the court again this Saturday with a chance to secure a conference championship and complete a remarkable three-peat. In a dramatic turn on the opposite side of the bracket, fifth-seeded Regis stunned top-seeded Emmanuel, shifting the championship site to Newton and placing Lasell as the highest remaining seed. With the title on the line and home-court advantage secured, the Lasers will host Regis College at 1:30 p.m. inside the Athletic Center as they look to close out their postseason run with another conference cup.
