WBB: Lasers Open Season With 64-46 Win Over Wellesley
Wellesley, MA- Lasell opened its 2025–26 season with an impressive 64–46 road win over Wellesley on Friday night.
After a close first half that saw Lasell leading 28–20 at the break, the Lasers took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Blue 26–12 to build a comfortable advantage they never relinquished. Senior guard Laura Johnson powered Lasell with a dominant double-double performance, scoring 20 points while grabbing 16 rebounds and adding three steals. Abigail Duclos contributed 14 points and four rebounds, and Blaize Mack added nine points and seven boards to help Lasell control the paint and the pace of play. The Lasers finished with a decisive 45–33 edge on the glass and shot 42.9 percent from the field, including a strong 81.8 percent from the free throw line.
Wellesley struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting just 29.1 percent from the floor and 12.5 percent from three-point range. Lasell's balanced scoring and control of the boards proved to be the difference, particularly during the third quarter when Johnson and Duclos sparked the offense with transition baskets and second-chance points. Wellesley showed fight late, outscoring Lasell 14–10 in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit was too large to overcome.
With the win, Lasell starts the season 1–0 and will look to carry its momentum into Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Wellesley drops to 0–1 and will aim to regroup before returning to NEWMAC competition.
Up Next: The Lasers will be back on the court this coming Wednesday, in a road matchup against Eastern Connecticut.
