Willimantic, CT- The Lasell University women's basketball team improved to 2–0 on the season with a 69–65 road win over Eastern Connecticut. The Lasers built a commanding lead through three quarters and held off a late rally by the Warriors to secure the victory.
Lasell led 31–26 at halftime and extended the margin to double digits with a dominant third quarter, outscoring Eastern 19–11 to take a 50–37 lead into the final period. Eastern Connecticut made a late push with a 28-point fourth quarter, but Lasell's poise at the free-throw line down the stretch proved to be the difference.
Shirle Major led the way for Lasell with 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists, going 10-for-12 from the line in a strong all-around performance. Laura Johnson recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends. Blaize Mack added 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while Abigail Duclos contributed 11 points and four assists to round out a balanced scoring effort.
Lasell shot 38.1 percent from the field and an impressive 85.7 percent from the free-throw line, converting 18 of 21 attempts. The Lasers also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Warriors 45–35, with 13 of those coming on the offensive end.
