WBB: Lasers Defeat Gordon 86-67
Newton, MA- The Lasell women's basketball team has risen to a 9-1 record after defeating the Fighting Scots of Gordon College this afternoon with a decisive final score of 86-67.
The opening quarter saw a competitive start before the Lasers slowly pulled away. Gordon connected early from beyond the arc to help build an 8–3 advantage, but strong offensive rebounding and interior play by Blaize Mack and Daeserae Williamson kept the game tight. As the quarter progressed, balanced scoring from Laura Johnson, Abigail Duclos, and Erica Lendall sparked a late surge, highlighted by a Lendall three and consistent finishes in the paint. Despite multiple second-chance opportunities, Gordon struggled to convert down the stretch, and the quarter ended with a 22–12 Laser lead.
The second quarter opened with defensive pressure and limited scoring before Lasell's lead steadily grew. Teagan Clancy provided early offense inside and Duclos was a key presence on both ends, hitting a pair of three-pointers and finishing an and-one to push the margin into double digits. Strong rebounding and transition finishes late in the quarter capped the run, sending the teams into halftime with a 48–27 Lasell advantage.
Coming out of the break, both teams had an up-tempo pace. Shirle Major and Mack knocked down key shots to keep the offense moving, while Gordon connected from deep to briefly cut into the margin. Laura Johnson was active on the glass and around the rim, generating multiple second-chance opportunities and finishing late in the period, closing the quarter with a 68–46 lead.
The final quarter opened with quick exchanges and defensive pressure, highlighted by early turnovers on both sides. Hailey Johnson and Duclos, who ended with 16 points, helped extend the lead with steady scoring, while Williamson finished inside to keep the offense flowing. Mack led the Lasers with 19 points and Laura Johnson helped keep control with 24 rebounds and 10 points. The Lasers lead held firm through the final minutes to seal an 86–67 victory.
