WBB: Lasers Fall to Emmanuel 73-60
Newton, MA- The Lasell University women's basketball team celebrated their seniors on Saturday afternoon and faced a tough Emmanuel team.
The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both teams trading baskets and settling in offensively. Abigail Duclos and Shirle Major helped set the tone early with strong finishes inside, while Daeserae Williamson contributed on both ends with finishes at the rim and defensive activity. Laura Johnson controlled the glass and pushed the pace, allowing the Lasers to edge ahead late in the quarter and take a slim 18–17 advantage after one.
Momentum swung back and forth in the second, highlighted by Alexis Bulson-Cuozzo knocking down key jumpers and Duclos stretching the floor with a three. Johnson continued to impact the game with rebounds, assists, and timely scoring, while Williamson added interior scoring and a block to anchor the defense. Despite multiple lead changes and defensive rebounds on both sides, the half closed with the game still tight, as Lasell went to the locker room down 34-31.
Lasell opened the second half with defensive stops and second-chance opportunities. Johnson helped keep Lasell within striking distance and provided a lift with strong finishes around the rim as Lasell battled through a physical quarter. Despite forcing turnovers and earning extra possessions, Lasell struggled to fully close the gap and entered the fourth quarter down 50–44.
Lasell continued to compete in the final quarter, cutting into the deficit behind aggressive rebounding and inside scoring from Johnson and Blaize Mack. However, turnovers and missed opportunities at the free-throw line slowed the comeback effort, allowing the Saints to extend the margin late. Lasell fought until the final horn but ultimately fell 73–60.
Up Next- The Lasers will be back in action traveling to Saint Joseph's Maine on Tuesday February 3.
