WBB: Lasers Fly Past Blazers 81-50
Newton, MA- The Lasell University women's basketball team defeated Elms College 81-50 on Wednesday evening.
Lasell delivered a commanding first quarter and set the tone early with strong defensive energy and balanced scoring. Laura Johnson dominated the glass, pulling down multiple defensive rebounds and baskets to keep momentum on their side. Blaize Mack knocked down a three-pointer off a sharp assist from Abigail Duclos, and Johnson added a smooth jumper to keep the score up. Daeserae Williamson anchored the defense with a big block and contributed inside, helping the Lasers edge ahead 29-8.
In the second, Lasell continued to pull away behind timely plays on both ends of the floor. Mack came up with a steal and converted it into points, while Alexis Bulson-Cuozzo drilled a clutch three-pointer to extend the lead. Williamson controlled the paint with offensive rebounds, blocks, and strong finishes at the rim. Johnson continued to facilitate and score inside, and despite a few turnovers, Lasell's defensive pressure and second-chance opportunities allowed them to take control and head into halftime with the 46-23 advantage.
Lasell came out strong after halftime, using second-chance points and aggressive defense to build on its lead. Mack controlled the paint with multiple put-backs, while Duclos added key baskets to keep the momentum rolling. Strong rebounding and transition play helped the Lasers stretch the advantage to 65-34 heading into the fourth.
The Lasers continued to dominate in the final frame. Mack continued finishing inside and Hayden Leccese and Ashley Gagner knocked down key perimeter shots. The Lasers depth and defensive pressure limited any comeback attempt, as they closed out an impressive 81-50 victory.
