Newton, MA- In a hard-fought contest, Lasell defeated Fitchburg State 13-8 in a women's lacrosse game. The match was competitive, with both teams exchanging leads throughout, but Lasell's second-half surge proved decisive.
The game began with Fitchburg State's Autumn Tibbetts scoring the opening goal, but Lasell responded quickly with two goals, taking a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second, Fitchburg State came alive, outscoring Lasell 3-0, and taking a 4-2 lead into halftime.
However, Lasell came out strong after the break, scoring 5 goals in the third quarter to reclaim the lead, 7-6. Fitchburg State managed just two goals in the period, both by Tibbetts and Abaigeal Doheny.
The final quarter was all Lasell, as they piled on 6 more goals. The offensive firepower of Kaitlin Bedell (5 goals), Emily Watson (3 goals), and Alice Rourke (4 goals) proved too much for Fitchburg State. Despite Tibbetts' 4-goal performance, Fitchburg State struggled to match Lasell's scoring pace, ultimately falling 13-8.
Lasell's goalkeeper Joy Sayah was solid in net, registering 12 saves, while Fitchburg State's Dakin Kovatch made 5 saves.
The win improves Lasell to 2-0 on the season, while Fitchburg State drops to 0-1.
Up Next: The Lasers will be back on their home turf this coming Wednesday for a non-conference matchup against Curry College.
