WLAX: Lasers Fall to Pride 10-6
Weston, MA – The Lasell University women's lacrosse team fell to Regis College, 10–6, in a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup Saturday afternoon. The Lasers drop to 9–5 overall and 2–2 in GNAC play, while Regis improves to 6–7 (4–4 GNAC), tying the teams in conference standings as the playoff race heats up.
Lasell came out firing in the first quarter, jumping to a 2–0 lead on goals from Alice Rourke and Kaitlin Bedell, both assisted by Kaleigh Kosta and Emily Watson, respectively. After Regis responded with a four-goal run, Lasell closed the quarter strong with Rourke's second of the day, cutting the deficit to 4–3.
In the second, Watson tied the game at 4–4 before Regis briefly pulled ahead. Rourke's free-position goal late in the quarter knotted the score again, sending both teams into halftime tied 5–5.
The third quarter proved pivotal, as Regis capitalized on turnovers and second-chance possessions to score three unanswered goals and take an 8–5 lead. Lasell's only second-half goal came early in the fourth from Rourke, her fourth of the game, off another free-position opportunity. Regis added two more late to seal the win.
Rourke had a standout day with 4 goals on 6 shots on goal, adding 4 ground balls and a caused turnover. Emily Watson contributed 1 goal, 1 assist, and 4 draw controls, while Kaitlin Bedell posted 1 goal, 1 assist, and 5 draw controls. Kaleigh Kosta dished out 2 assists, and Ruby Cahill was active all over the field with 4 shots, 3 ground balls, and 3 caused turnovers. Goalie Joy Sayah made 7 saves in the cage for Lasell.
Despite outdrawing Regis on the circle (13–7) and winning more free-position shots (2–0), Lasell was undone by 28 turnovers, which allowed Regis to control possession and pace.
Lasell now returns home for a critical GNAC matchup as they look to rebound and secure postseason seeding. With only a few regular season games remaining, every contest counts as the Lasers push for a spot in the GNAC Tournament.
