WLAX: Lasers Capture Senior Day Win Over USJ
Newton, MA - In a thrilling game, Lasell Women's lacrosse edged out Saint Joseph (Conn.) 10-9 in an important Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Senior Day. Defender Shanon Borbee was recognized in the pregame ceremonies as the lone senior on the roster and for her four-year tenure as a starter for the program.
The match saw a strong start from Lasell, who led 3-1 in the first quarter, with goals from Alice Rourke, Emily Watson, and Kaitlin Bedell. Saint Joseph responded late in the quarter, with Kaylynn Lapointe pulling one back for the Blue Jays. The second quarter saw Lasell extend their lead, with Kaitlin Bedell and Emily Watson both scoring to make it 5-3. Lasell's Kaleigh Kosta then found the net once more for the Lasers to push the score to 7-4 by halftime. Saint Joseph mounted a strong comeback in the third quarter with Reagan Buscetto scoring twice, followed by a free-position goal from Lapointe to level the game at 7-7. Lasell regained the lead briefly, with Bedell scoring her fourth goal of the day, but Saint Joseph answered back again, making it 8-8 heading into the final frame. The game remained tight in the fourth quarter until Lasell's Jade Sullivan broke the tie with 4:30 left to go. In the waning minutes, the Lasers held on and secured the 10-9 win.
Kaitlin Beddell's four goals led the Lasers, with Emily Watson adding two goals and an assist. Alice Rourke also tallied two goals and two assists, with goalkeeper Joy Sayah making 14 saves. Saint Joseph attacker Reagan Buscetto had a standout performance for the Blue Jays with five goals and one assist. With the win, the Lasers are now 11-5 (6-4 GNAC) with only one game left to play.
