WLAX: Season Ends in GNAC Quarterfinal vs Monks
Newton, MA - The Lasell University women's lacrosse team saw its 2025 season come to an end with a tough 17-5 loss to Saint Joseph's (ME) in the GNAC quarterfinals Saturday at Grellier Field.
The third-seeded Monks (12-5, 9-2 GNAC) were fueled by a quick start, outscoring the second-seeded Lasers 4-0 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, after falling behind as many as 8-0, the Lasers finally got on the board behind two goals from freshman Alice Rourke. They would also score the final goal of the second period in the final seconds as Kaitlin Bedell found Ruby Cahill for a score just before time expired, which put the score at 10-3 going into the halftime break.
The Lasers fought hard in the third quarter, with goals from Mara Boldy and Kaitlin Bedell cutting the deficit briefly to 11-5. However, Saint Joseph's responded with four unanswered goals to close the quarter, including a pair by Taylor Dumond, who finished with four goals and an assist.
Despite the final score, Lasell had some bright spots. Bedell posted a goal and two assists, and Rourke led the team with two goals and three ground balls. The Lasers dominated the draw controls in the third quarter, winning six to Saint Joseph's two, but struggled with turnovers throughout the game, committing 35 compared to the Monks' 24.
Ruby Cahill also chipped in a score and an assist for the Lasers, with Joy Sayah recording 13 saves in the net for Lasell, facing a relentless 41-shot attack from Saint Joseph's.
The loss ends Lasell's season with a final record of 12-6 (7-4 GNAC), marking a strong campaign highlighted by a second-place GNAC South Division regular season finish. Meanwhile, Saint Joseph's advances to the GNAC semi-final game and will play the Saints of Emmanuel College on Wednesday, April 30th.
