Newton, MA – The Lasell University women's soccer team battled through 90 minutes of intense action but came up short in a 3–0 loss to the University of New England on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field. With the result, Lasell moves to 1-1-1 on the season, while UNE improves to 4-1.
The Nor'easters controlled much of the possession throughout the match and opened the scoring in the 32nd minute on an unassisted goal by Jill Hodgson. Despite a determined defensive effort by the Lasers, UNE added two more goals in the second half — one in the 64th minute and another in the 89th to secure the win.
Lasell goalkeeper Elizabeth DaSilva was a standout performer in net, facing 15 shots on goal and turning away 12 of them, keeping her team within striking distance for much of the match.
Offensively, the Lasers registered eight shots, three of which were on goal. Destani Alua-Rioux, Brianna Marrero, and Julianna Huckans each challenged the UNE keepers with shots on target. The defensive unit, including Brooke Felix and Lillyana Coelho, held strong under consistent pressure and limited quality looks in open play.
Up Next: The Lasers will open up conference play this coming Saturday, with a home field matchup against Regis College at 12pm.
